About Burgess Artwork.
Shaun Burgess is a British oil painter based in Suffolk, specialising in contemporary equine and animal paintings, with a particular focus on Arabian horses.
His work combines carefully observed anatomy with expressive colour, bold marks and passages of abstraction. Detailed features emerge from quieter, loosely painted areas, capturing the character, movement and presence of each animal.
Arabian horses and camels are central to his practice, reflecting a growing connection with the Gulf and its equestrian and cultural heritage. His wider work includes portraiture and selected military and heritage commissions.
Burgess’s work has featured alongside that of acclaimed British sculptor Jenna Gearing in exhibitions in Qatar and Saudi Arabia annually since 2023. His paintings are held in private collections across the United Kingdom, Europe, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Lawrence Tribute Trek 2025
Two original oil paintings created to commemorate an extraordinary journey of endurance, heritage and charitable purpose.
In January 2025, five members of the Special Forces Club undertook a 685-mile camel trek from Saudi Arabia to Aqaba, following the historic route associated with T. E. Lawrence and his Arab companions. Led by Howard Leedham MBE, the expedition raised funds for the Special Forces Club Benevolent Fund.
Burgess’s paintings capture the expedition’s leader and the camel riders travelling through the desert. Both works are held in private collections.
